Hola Bulldogs!

Hello to all! This is Señora Sylvia Baeza Juhász and I am honored to be your Spanish teacher at Boone Elementary! I am looking forward to meeting every single one of you and embarking on a journey filled with enriching experiences in Spanish instruction.

Being new to Highland Park ISD, I am excited to unpack 19 years of experience in second language acquisition in support of the district’s program Passport to Spanish. My career began in Richardson ISD in Bilingual and ESL Education with a focus in Two-way Dual Language in addition to training in Differentiation and Gifted and Talented. I also believe that my own experience as a student of French at Southern Methodist University long, long ago has served me well in my career as a teacher allowing me to relate to my students on many levels as learners so that I can more intuitively support their hard work and effort towards proficiency in a foreign language.

As a native Texan of Mexican heritage, Spanish was my home language growing up. It is what I continue to speak with my husband Andrew and my daughter Aniko, my only child. Andrew, who grew up in Puerto Rico, is a native Spanish speaker and chose to study Italian at SMU where we met. Interestingly, my daughter learned to speak Japanese. She studied it in addition to the cello at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.  It’s been amazing to watch her flourish in a language she was exposed to in college and continues to perfect. Watching her success makes me eager to start engaging our students in meaningful and fun Spanish lessons and watch them flourish as well. I can’t wait!

¡Hasta pronto!  See you soon!
Adios

Our family is not complete without our two purr-ty cats Abbey and Nina. Abbey is the oldest at 17 years old. I rescued her from underneath a recycling dumpster at two weeks old. Nina is another rescue and she is now 8. Abbey doesn’t mind dressing up for Halloween whereas Nina prefers not to be held at all much less wear a costume.  But they are both playful and are a joy to have around. Aren’t they cute?!
