History

In 2015, the HPISD community passed a bond election that provided a fifth elementary school. Funds from the $361.4 million bond referendum were used to acquire the land acreage from Northway Christian Church for the purpose of building Boone Elementary School. The newest elementary school campus is essential to accommodate the forecasted growth in HPISD’s elementary population.

Boone is the first elementary campus in HPISD to open since 1949 and the only HPISD school located in the City of Dallas. The school boasts more than 40 classrooms, pods and flexible learning spaces for each grade, a large gymnasium and a cafetorium. The Board of Trustees approved the naming of the new school after Michael M. Boone for his dedicated service to the Highland Park community as an alumnus and previous school board president.

Michael Boone is a 1959 graduate of Highland Park High School, a graduate of SMU, and the SMU School of Law. He has been honored by each as a distinguished alumnus. In addition to co-founding Haynes and Boone, one of the nation's premier law firms, Boone served, at separate times, as president of the HPISD Board of Trustees, chair of the SMU Board of Trustees, and president of the Dallas Citizens Council, all high-profile, influential volunteer positions.

Boone Elementary School opened in August 2020 for students in Pre-K through fourth-grades.
