Meet Mrs. Ard
I am so excited to begin the 2020 - 2021 school year, and I feel extremely blessed to be part of the Boone family, especially as we begin our inaugural year. This will be my 11th year teaching and my 4th year in Highland Park ISD. Prior to coming to Boone, I was teaching 2nd grade at Armstrong Elementary.
To start off this new year, I would like to share a little about myself. I was born and raised in Houston, but have been back in Dallas for 3 years. I attended Baylor University for 2 years and then transferred to the University of Missouri to complete my degree in Child Development and Family Studies. After college, I moved to Dallas and worked at Children's Medical Center as a Child Life Specialist in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. In this job, I worked very closely with schools and teachers to help my patients transition back into the classroom following their treatment. I made the decision to leave the hospital and pursue a career in teaching. This led me back to the Houston area where I taught 1st grade for 2 years and 4th grade for 5 years. Although Houston is where I grew up, I really wanted to return to Dallas and make this my home!
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our wild and crazy labradoodle, Moxie. During the fall, we can usually be found cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners, as my husband and his family are die-hard Sooner fans! We also enjoy catching any sporting events in person, traveling, and finding fun activities to do.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of my students and families this year! It's going to be a great adventure in 2nd grade!
