History & Founder
Boone Elementary School was established following the passage of the 2015 HPISD Bond Election, which included funding for a fifth elementary school to support the district’s growing student population. Through the $361.4 million bond referendum, HPISD acquired land acreage from Northway Christian Church to build the new campus, helping ensure continued excellence and opportunity for future generations of elementary students.
Opened in August 2020, Boone Elementary became the first new elementary campus to open in HPISD since 1949 and remains the district’s only school located within the City of Dallas. Designed with modern learning in mind, the campus features more than 40 classrooms, collaborative learning pods and flexible learning spaces for each grade level, along with a large gymnasium and cafetorium that support both academics and student life.
The HPISD Board of Trustees approved naming the school after Michael M. Boone in recognition of his lifelong dedication and service to the Highland Park community. A 1959 graduate of Highland Park High School, Boone went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University and the SMU Dedman School of Law, where he was later recognized as a distinguished alumnus by both institutions.
In addition to co-founding Haynes and Boone, one of the nation’s premier law firms, Michael Boone served the community through numerous influential leadership roles. Throughout his career, he served as president of the HPISD Board of Trustees, chair of the SMU Board of Trustees, and president of the Dallas Citizens Council. His leadership, commitment to education, and service to the community continue to inspire the mission and values of Boone Elementary today.
Today, Boone Elementary serves Pre-K through fourth grade students in a collaborative and student-centered environment focused on academic excellence, creativity, leadership, and lifelong learning. As the home of the Bulldogs, Boone continues to build upon HPISD’s proud tradition of preparing students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
